Delos is to be found a few miles off the cosmopolitan island of Mykonos. According to mythology it is the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, which is the reason that even in ancient times it was considered a religious centre for all Greeks. Today, though it is no longer inhabited, it is an attraction for thousands of tourists that visit from all over the world to browse around the impressive archeological site which covers the entire island and which UNESCO has listed as a world heritage cultural monument. Mykonos, known as the Island of the Winds, is to be found right in the middle of the Cyclades and according to tradition, took its name from the hero Mykons grandson of the god Apollo.
Mykonos with its preserved Cycladic architecture and its whitewashed churches, wonderful sandy beaches and cosmopolitan nightlife, results in one of the most beautiful islands of Greece and is one of the most popular summer destinations worldwide.
